Here at Fun-A-Day, we LOVE art projects for kids! If your students can’t get enough art activities, you’ve come to the right place.
I’ve put together a huge resource here, chock full of kids’ art projects. You’ll find art ideas for preschool, pre-k, and early elementary children. You can even make adjustments so older children can get into all of the art fun.
In addition to being fun and creative, these art ideas for kids allow for a lot of skills practice, too. As with all things young children do, there is so much learning to be had with art.
Since this is a collection of art ideas, you’ll find a bevy of links below. This is the place where I’ll keep all of our art posts. So I’ll be adding to it as I share more of our art fun.
The links are underlined and blue text, and they each take you to the individual art projects. Click on the activities you’re most interested in to read more details.

You might already have a bit of an art supply stash. If so, take a look and see what materials you already have on-hand. That way you can use those supplies as the basis of which art projects for kids you choose.
Here are some materials I love keeping around for all kinds of art activities (I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post):
- Washable tempera paint
- Paintbrushes
- Variety of paper
- Glue
- Liquid watercolors
- Washi tape

What Do Children Learn When Creating Art?
Art projects for kids are fun and engaging, and that’s more than enough reason to put them into your lesson plans. At the same time, young children are always learning. And art is no different.
Here are some of the concepts covered in the kids’ art activities I shared above:
- Creativity
- Problem solving
- Color identification
- Shapes
- Patterns
- Force and motion
- Descriptive vocabulary
- Color theory
- Cause and effect
- Fine motor skills
This list is by no means exhaustive, but it shows that art can be used to teach and practice a variety of early learning skills.
Tips For Handling Art Messes with Kids
With art comes mess, especially when young children are the artists. And that’s okay! I’m not one to shy away from messes, as my epic list of messy play ideas can attest. Having a plan in place can help whether you embrace or abhor the mess.
Here are some ways to handle the mess that often goes hand-in-hand with art projects for kids:
- Make sure your students know your expectations (for example, “The paint stays on the paper.”)
- Set up the art invitations on an easy-to-clean surface if possible. Or place a tarp or mat underneath as needed.
- Have wipes and towels nearby to quickly handle spills.
- Try and create your art near a sink if you can.
- Use washable products as much as possible.
- Teach your students how to clean up after themselves.
I hope those ideas help you a little bit as you plan out your art lessons.
