A preschool apple theme is just one of the fun and engaging preschool themes you can teach this fall! Many young children have some experience with apples prior to preschool. This apple unit allows you to take what they already know and build upon it.
Integrate science, literacy, math, sensory exploration, art, and more into your apple lesson plans. Consider planning a trip to a local apple orchard if possible, too!
You’ll even find some free preschool printables shared below. And they’re apple-themed, of course! They support the hands-on learning that takes place during your apple theme.

I keep referencing this as a preschool theme, and it definitely is! But I’ve also used many of these ideas during a kindergarten apple theme, too.
No matter which age you teach, take a look at the apple activities below. Find the ones that work best for you, and then make adjustments to the activities based on the needs of your students.

Why Teach Kids About Apples?
I know not every teacher enjoys an apple unit, and that’s okay! If it’s not your cup of tea, you don’t need to plan a preschool apple theme for your students.
That being said, it really can be a fun concept to explore with the kids! As I mentioned earlier, many children enter preschool with some background knowledge of apples. And if they don’t, you can easily give them that exposure.
Here are a few more reasons to teach kids about apples:
- Apples can be explored with all of the five senses.
- They’re readily available in most grocery stores.
- You can use apples to teach important early learning concepts – from fine motor skills to science to math to art, etc.
- Apples are concrete objects that kids can understand.
I definitely think, if you’re going to teach a unit on apples, you want to wait until after some time spent getting to know your students. An “all about me” theme would be a great place to start.
