Apple Calendar Numbers
Do you use a calendar in your classroom? I know that it’s a topic that’s been hotly debated over the years. Especially when it comes to calendars in preschool and kindergarten classes.
But no matter where you fall in that debate, these apple calendar numbers are going to serve you well! Read below about how to prep the number cards and some ideas for incorporating them into your classroom.
How to Prep the Number Cards
As I already mentioned above, there really isn’t much to getting the number cards ready to go! Start off by gathering your preferred printable prepping materials. Here are some things I tend to use (I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post):
- Scissors (or paper cutter)
- Laminating sheets
Then it’s time to get the apple calendar numbers prepped. Here’s what to do:
- First, open the document in the most up-to-date version of Adobe Reader.
- Next, print out the number cards. Make extra copies if desired.
- Then cut the cards apart.
- Run the cards through a laminator.
- Finally, cut the laminated pieces into individual number cards.
Here’s another “debate” for you – do you cut, laminate, cut OR do you laminate, cut? I always cut, laminate, cut because I’ve never figured out the secret for getting long-lasting results from just laminating and then cutting. If you know the trick, be sure to fill me in!
Using the Apple Calendar Numbers in the Classroom
I know I’ve mentioned this a few times already, but these printable cards can be used in SO MANY ways! I’m going to share some ideas below, but please don’t feel limited by my ideas. You and your students can come up with even more, I’m sure.
Add the cards to your linear or traditional calendar. They’re a great way to just keep track of what day it is. And the apple theme lends itself for use during an apple theme or during one of the fall months.
Teach and practice patterns. Since the printable comes with three colors of apples, the patterns can be based on color. Or pair the apple calendar numbers with other number cards (like the pumpkin calendar numbers) for even more patterning opportunities.
Have the kids practice numerical order from 1 to 5, 1 to 10, or even 0 all the way through 35. Challenge those children that need it to do so in reverse, too.
Pair the apple numbers with math manipulatives or loose parts. Then have the kids place the corresponding number of manipulatives next to each number.
Create a vanilla spice sensory writing tray for your students. Use the numbers as cue cards to guide the kids through number writing practice.
Place the apple cards in a grid shape, using two sets. Then have the kids play a matching game. They take turns turning over two cards at a time to see if they can find matching numbers.
Okay, I’m going to stop there. But I really could go on and on! We’ve used calendar numbers in so many ways over the years.
