If you’re looking for a fun and unique idea to add to your Thanksgiving activities for preschoolers and kindergartners, this turkey pumpkin seed art is perfect! You can also try this during your next farm theme, or as part of a bird unit.
The Thanksgiving turkey art uses a novel art material, pumpkin seeds. This makes the activity more engaging and lets the kids really use their imaginations and problem solving skills as they create.
In addition to this, the children are practicing their fine motor skills and touching on early math concepts as they make pumpkin seed art turkeys. All while having fun and being creative.

This Thanksgiving art activity doesn’t require many materials at all. I bet you already have most of them on-hand, in fact! We grabbed a few things from the art center, as well as leftover dyed pumpkin seeds.

Thanksgiving Art Directions
As I mentioned, this is a super duper simple Thanksgiving art experience for the kiddos!
It started because one of the children said the pumpkin seeds looked like turkey feathers (kind of the same way our fall leaf art started). Once that observation had been made, art making became a priority with the kids.
We grabbed a few art supplies and got to it.

For some of the turkeys, the children used markers to draw the bodies.
For other turkeys, we used a circle cut out as the turkey bodies.
The pumpkin seeds were added as feathers from there.

Even though the process was simple, some of the children really got into it!
We ended up with a variety of small turkeys, an abstract turkey, and one that had “feathers that turned into super long hair.”
