Free All About Me Printable Book

Shared by Mary Catherine Leave a comment

This all about me printable book is a great way to get to know your students as they practice important early literacy skills. If you’re a fan of printable books for kids, you’ll definitely want to add this to your collection.

The all about me printable would be perfect at the beginning of the year as you’re just getting to know your students. Many teachers lead an all about me unit at that time, but others incorporate such a theme later in the year. Either way, this emergent reader would be a good addition.

Consider making one all about me book at the beginning of the school year. And then make another one towards the end of the year to see what’s changed. Be sure to get your own copy of the printable at the very bottom of this post.

All About Me Printable Book

This free all about me emergent reader is incredibly easy to put together, so you can have this ready for your students to use tomorrow. Below I’ll outline how to prep the book, as well as a few ways to use it with the kids.

How to Prep the All About Me Printable

As I just mentioned, there’s not much to putting this book together! Start off by grabbing the items you need first. Here’s what we used (I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post):

  • Printer
  • Stapler

Yes, that’s really all you need! While you’re out getting supplies, why not grab the other items you might need:

  • Crayons
  • Markers
  • Laminator
  • Dry erase markers

Now it’s time to assemble the all about me printable book. I specifically design most of my emergent readers so all I have to do is print, fold, and staple them. Here’s what to do:

  • First, get your copy of the book at the bottom of this post.
  • Then open the file in the most up-to-date version of Adobe Reader.
  • Print out the all about me book, making additional copies as needed.
  • Fold the pages of the book in half, with the images and text facing out.
  • Next, arrange the pages in the order you’d like them to be, with the folded parts on the right-hand side.
  • Finally, staple along the left-hand side.

Here’s a short video that shows the process:

What’s Included in the All About Me Printable Book

It’s a very simple book that’s meant to get the kids thinking and sharing about themselves. Here’s what you’ll find inside it:

  • First, there’s the cover page. It’s entitled “All About Me.”

  • The first page says, “My name is” and has a little notebook-like frame.
  • The second page reads, “I am ___ years old” and has a birthday cake.
  • The third page is, “I have ___ people in my family” and has a simple frame. Please note that there’s an alternative third page that reads, “Someone important to me is” with the same frame.
  • The fourth page says, “This is a picture of me:” with a long frame.
  • The fifth page reads, “My favorite animal is the” with a square frame.

  • The sixth page is, “My favorite color is” and has a crayon below the words.
  • The final page says, “I want to be” with a long block frame.

You can use all of the pages or just a few of them. That’s up to your preferences and the needs of your students. Instead of folding and stapling the book, you can always cut the pages down the middle. That will give you more leeway to pick and choose which pages to include in your all about me printable book.

How to Use the All About Me Book with Kids

Once you have all of the books ready to go, call over a small group of students. Explain that they get to make a book all about themselves! Point to the title and read it aloud to the kids. Help the kids write their names on the front cover, as needed.

Open the book up and read the words. They get to write their names again! Play this off as a little silly for some extra giggles from the kids.

Then walk the children through each page of the book. Read the words as you point to them. Lead the kids in a short discussion about what to write and draw on each of the pages. There’s room to write the kids’ responses on each page, along with room for drawing. If they want to, encourage the students to color in the frames as well.

There is a page that references families, as well as an alternative that references someone special to the kids. When I talk with children about families, I share that families come in all shapes and sizes – from one parent to multiple parents to foster families, etc. Again, you know your students best, so choose the version you think most appropriate.

Some children will be able to attempt writing their answers, while others will be better off dictating and having you write the answers. You know your students best, so decide on a case-by-case basis what makes sense.

Depending on the ages and needs of the children, the all about me printable book might take a day or a few days. Either way is perfectly fine. Be sure to keep the books to read over and over again. Then let the kids take the emergent readers home to share with their families.

You can also keep a few laminated copies of the printable in your literacy center. Kids can use dry erase markers with the pages!
