Why Make Snacks with the Kids This Christmas?

The first thing I think of when it comes to preschool-aged kids is snacks! Preschoolers are often serial snackers, preferring those over actual meals. And I love to make simple things like snack time special for the kids, especially around the holidays. So, I made this list of Christmas snacks for kids.

These recipes aren’t only great for snack time. The kids can help make these snacks, making them a fun, hands-on learning activity that ends with a tasty treat! If you’re wondering about some of the learning that takes place, here are a few:

  • Color identification
  • Fine motor skills
  • Sensory exploration
  • Following multi-step directions
  • Listening skills
  • Counting
  • Visual discrimination
  • Problem solving

Teaching kids to cook is such a rewarding activity in more ways than one, right?!

Materials to Make Preschool Christmas Snacks

Having everything sorted and ready to go is an important part of this process with kids! It helps keep chaos to a minimum and helps the children know what to expect.

Of course, your ingredients list will depend on the recipe you choose to make. But I like to keep a few holiday-themed items on hand to make the Christmas snacks for kids even better! Here are some possibilities (I may get commissions for purchases made through links in this post):

  • Christmas cookie cutters
  • Star cookie cutters
  • Icing
  • Candy canes
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Jumbo marshmallows
  • Colorful sprinkles
  • Holiday sprinkles
  • Popcorn
  • Toothpicks
  • Red sprinkles
  • Green sprinkles
  • M&Ms
  • Food coloring
  • Pretzel sticks
  • Pretzel twists
  • Peanut butter or sun butter
  • Hot cocoa mix

These are ingredients that I’ve noticed to be staples when it comes to snacks for preschoolers. You can check your pantry or ask parents to bring in some supplies to keep the festive snacks going all holiday season long!
